The Visit Isle of Man website describes the Ramsey Beach as though it is a single beach 'bordered on one side by the Victorian Queen's Pier and on the other side by two stone piers.' This is the 'south beach' and there is another beach north of the tow stone piers and extends for the length of the Mooragh Promenade.

Ramsey Beach is part of the Ramsey Bay Nature Reserve which in turn is part of the Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. (visit link)

South Beach

The South Beach at Ramsey is a sandy beach which slopes gently down to the sea and is surprisingly quite even at the height of summer.

The south beach at Ramsey is just a few minutes from the town centre and is bordered to the south by the Victorian Queen's Pier and on the north by one of the stone breakwaters which guard the entrance to the towns commercial harbour.

Access to the beach is from Queen's Promenade and can be gained either by way of some steep concrete steps or by using the lifeboat 'slipway' at the northern end of the beach.

North Beach

The North Beach at Ramsey is a mainly sandy beach which slopes gently down to the sea and is loved by dog walkers, joggers and ornithologist. The Visit Isle of Man website describes the beach as a ‘golden, sandy beach’; this better describes the South Beach than the North Beach which although it is by no means a shingle beach does have more stones and certainly more than 50 years ago.

The North Beach is flanked by the Mooragh Promenade and border to the south by the northern stone breakwater which guards the entrance to the towns commercial port. To the north the Beach extends a little beyond the end of the Mooragh Promenade seawall.

The nearest access from the town centre is via 5 concrete steps opposite to Hope Street. There are two commemorative plaques at the access opposite North Shore Road which mark respectively the original opening of the Mooragh Promenade in August 1887 and then the Its reconstruction in August 1951. Access to the beach is from Mooragh Promenade and can be gained either by way of a few concrete steps or by using a 'slipway’ which is approximately half way along the beach opposite the Ramsey Rugby Club pitch.
