"This small cottage is the best example of single-family Tudor style residences in the district. It is 1½ stories with a steeply pitched cross-gabled roof. A basket handled stone arch surrounds the entrance. The entrance the windows are multi pane and have stone accents at the corners. A small brick garage with steeply pitched roof and Tudor style elements is located behind the house.

This house was built in the late 1930s for Melvin Frank and his wife Louise (Lula) Humbrock by Lula's brothers. El Frank ran a grocery store on the NE corner of W. 9th and Jefferson streets." NRHP Nomination Form

Awarded a National Historic designation in 2007, the Court Street Historic Residential District begins on 10th Street and continues to Fulton's historic downtown. The tree-lined streets compliment 83 homes of varying architectural styles, many of which were designed by a prominent Missouri architect and Fulton resident, M.F. Bell, and remind us of a time when life was much less hectic.


Intersecting high gables; ashlar shingles.
Polychrome brick; stretcher bond.
"M.F." over gabled entrance; segmental arch doorway with stone surrounding; chimney on N (primary) facade has random stones as decoration flat-arch windows with limestone sills; limestone pieces articulate top corners of window lintels.

This house was built for Melvin Frank and his wife Louise (Lula) Humbrock. It was built in the late 1930's by Lula's brothers who lived in Jefferson City. The Franks had 1 daughter, Marcella Frank Johnson. Mel Frank ran a grocery store on the NE corner of W. 9th & Jefferson. Mel Frank (March 9, 1894-March 9, 1975) was one of Charley Frank's children." ~ Fulton Historic Survey  part 1, page 1103
