Norwood Center, in the early days when this area was still part of the town of Dedham as the South Parish, was a place where two turnpike roads diverged. At a tavern was a hook where horse reigns were placed to park horses. That hook gave the area the name, "The Hook." Since then, the area has changed considerably. The tavern, and thus, the hook, is gone. The roads have been rearranged and added. Of course, buildings have been built, including an unusual building for the town hall. This waymark provides just a sampling of the things that can be found in the center.
