A bronze figure of a woman holding a child, mounted on a sandstone base. Woman's hair is depicted as a train of coal cascading down behind her. At the lower front of the memorial is the figure of a miner hand hewing coal in a very low seam. To the left of the memorial is a scene depicting cottages with inscribed mine head workings and at the rear of the memorial are inscribed figures in a timeline setting. A halo surrounds the upper area of the figure and is illuminated by LED lighting.
