This Anglican Church was built at Lansdowne, a community northeast of Armstrong, in 1885 and, with the coming of the S & O railroad to Armstrong, moved to Armstrong in 1891. It has been in continuous use ever since.

Looking Back...

St. James Anglican Church was the first Protestant church built in the North Okanagan Valley. Hanging in the Church are Honour Rolls of congregation members for both World Wars.

1885 - Church was built at Lansdowne, on the north—west corner of the town centre.

1896 - Church was moved to this location on Patterson Avenue in Armstrong.

1896 - Bishop Dart of the Diocese of New Westminster consecrated it to St. James, the Apostle.

1903 - First pulpit was installed.

1925-1926 - Church was enlarged and many new sanctuary furnishings were added.

1927 - Bell, made in 1797 in England, was donated by W.S. Cooke, and blessed by Rev. L. Morrant.

1931 - Mortgage was burnt.

1951-1952 - New Parish New Hall was built, replacing the original.

1985 - Congregation celebrated their 100th Anniversary.
