Im Stadtgebiet von Leipzig gibt es 30 restaurierte und mehr als 30 nicht restaurierte Handschwengelpumpen aus dem späten 19. bis frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Die Pumpen stehen unter Denkmalschutz. Auffallend ist, dass die Handschwengelpumpen in Leipzig zumeist in ihrer Ausgestaltung nicht einzigartig sind, sondern mehrfach im Stadtgebiet vorkommen. Von ursprünglich elf Typen, sind heute noch acht auffindbar. Einige dieser Pumpen-Typen weisen eine bemerkenswerte kunstvolle Gestaltung auf, da sie aus einem künstlerischen Wettbewerb entstanden sind.

Zum Typ 'Kleiner Löwe':
Der Entwurf ist im Rahmen eines Wettbewerbs im Jahr 1908 entstanden, an dem sich der städtische Kunstverein und der Dürerbund beteiligt haben. Der Name des Künstlers ist jedoch nicht bekannt.
"Ein achteckiger Fuß trägt einen sich nach oben verjüngenden, im oberen Teil gerieften, runden Pumpenschaft, auf dem sich ein Aufbau mit vier Türmchen befindet. Ein daraufsitzender Löwe stützt sich auf einen Schild mit dem Stadtwappen. Bei den Originalpumpen war der Aufbau aus Blech, bei den restaurierten ist es ein Gussteil. Während meines Besuches der Pumpe, war diese nicht funktionstüchtig.

In the city of Leipzig there are 30 restored and more than 30 not restored Handschwengelpumpen from the late 19th to early 20th century. The pumps are national monuments. About the type 'Little Lion':
The design of this type was created at a competition in 1908, in which the municipal art association and the Dürerbund participated. The name of the artist is not known.
