The local fellowship started in 1921, the first date on the stone. The construction of the church was in three phases. The second phase involved a larger worship area, probably the 1931 date.

Preachers from the Baptist and Methodist churches led the Second Awakening movement, but new groups formed out of it, such as the Primitive Methodists.

Tent evangelistic meetings were involved in the formation of the Primitive Methodists and this local church. The movements were "characterized by enthusiasm, emotion, and an appeal to the super-natural." .
