Situated on the Beechworth-Wangaratta Road ('Ford Road') is the 'Shire Hall', which has become the local Tourist Information Centre. The front part that was built in 1858 was demolished and rebuilt for the 'colonial centenary' of 1888.

A competition was held for the design of the new building , and it was won by the Melbourne architect George Jobbins. The present building was completed by a local builder, Thomas Sandham, in 1889 at the cost of £2495.
The building is also a "City and Town Halls" Waymark. It is National Heritage Trust listed.
