The construction of the dam (U-85) resulted in the creation of Rice City Pond. The dam was built in 1865 creating a large holding pond in the Blackstone River and flooded the canal upstream for nearly 100 years. The canal and towpath was visible however the water level has risen to cover them in this section. Rice City Pond likely derives its name from the Rist family, a canal-era property owner. This is the last landmark in Uxbridge as the canal crosses into Northbridge.
