The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.
Many of the bridges on the canal have cut marks on them, but not all of them, including this one are on the OS website.
The cut mark and 1gl bolt and rivet is on the outside of the arch of the bridge. A modern concrete footbridge has been added to the side of the stone road bridge and the 1gl bolt is below the level of it.<
Unusually there is also a cut mark on the parapet of the bridge just above pavement level. That one is on north side of the bridge and is on the the OS website and has been waymarked here.
