Sitting near Coachella City Hall is a water trough and historical plaque which reads:
This water trough was constructed on the Southern Pacific Railroad property along Cantaloup Avenue for watering teams of horses hauling cantaloups and onions. It replaced a wooden trough on Front Street used in the early industry of shipping mesquite wood. The first name of this area was "Woodspur". |
This is the second historic water trough I've come across in California. I've waymarked another trough with historical placard that can be visited here.
