Although the handle still operates, there is no suction to draw water up. Around the corner on another road, Capernwray Road, is a stone trough with fresh water flowing in. Presumably for animals. There is no bucket hook on the spout as the outlet is nearer the ground than usual. On the riser through the pavement are some maker's markings.
The pump is on the still busy road through the village.
Kellet is an old Viking word meaning hillside with spring.
