North High School was built in 1889 with a wing added in 1916. The high school is made up of 2 structures with the earlier being a 2 1/2 story brick building of Romanesque Revival design. This building has a 4 story octagonal tower and arched entryway. It was designed as a grammar school, which it served as such until 1911 and then converted to the high school. In 1915-16 the school was enlarged by adding a 3 story building of Classical Revival design. Both structures remain as they existed in the early 20th century.
