This engraved stone marker for the Santa Fe Trail is located in a small park on the southwest corner of the intersection of Kansas Avenue and Main Street in Ingalls, Kansas.

This is one of many almost identical markers placed along the Santa Fe Trail in 1906 by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The inscription on the marker reads:

Historical Significance: This was the principal overland trade route between Missouri and New Mexico for 50 years.
Years in use: 50
How you discovered it: Spotted this stone marker on the side of the highway as I passed by.
Why?: For over 50 years the only means of transporting goods or livestock between Missouri and New Mexico was via this route which had several branches or alternate routes. Trade goods were transported west and mules or horses were brought back east on the return trip.
