David L. Hopkins, a Canadian-born immigrant who arrived in the Rogue Valley in 1851, had this house built around 1868, possibly as an investment, as he was unmarried and it is unclear whether he ever actually lived in the house. After changing hands a couple of times, this house came under the ownership of Minnie Obenchain in 1901. The Obenchains were long-time Jacksonville residents and when Minnie died in 1929, she left the house to her son Frank, who rented the house out as he remained at the family ranch near Bly.
