Located at a busy intersection of South Memorial Drive and South Main Street, this old marker tells travelers they are a mile from the Pratt facility. Back when this was placed in 1952, the factory was operating and employing many workers as the Continental Gin Company.
The text of the marker reads:
Pratt Gin Factory
Once world's largest plant manufacturing cotton gins.
Founded 1833 by Daniel Pratt, greatest industrialist of Alabama prior to 1860. Pratt's many industries were of great aid to Confederacy during Northern blockade.
