This Classic Revival house was built for Henry Breitbarth in 1868. Breitbarth was the longtime saloon keeper at the Bella Union. However, Breitbarth was unable to pay the building debts and lost the property, with the builder then using the property as a rental house. In 1890, William J. Plymale purchased the property. Plymale had arrived in Jacksonville in 1852 and was a farmer and livery stable owner for more than 25 years. He was elected to the Oregon Legislature in 1874 and was twice elected as Jackson County Surveyor.

This house was originally considered a primary contributing structure in the State of Oregon's Historic Property Inventory conducted in 1976. However, a resurvey in 2011 shows that due to renovations made to the building in 2000, the state no longer considers it "contributing" - what impact this has on it's standing within the U.S. National Historic District is unclear to me - it's possible this is no longer a contributing building.
