This memorial takes the form of a cattle trough and, possibly, a drinking fountain. There are many cattle troughs throughout London that are left 'in memoriam' of someone.

On the western end of the cattle trough is the
inscription:
In Memoriam
Robert Trotter
Esq
1877
What connection Mr Trotter had with Greenwich is unknown but
he seems to have had at least one other drinking fountain (WMF16D)
created in his memory.
The conduit head that stands close by the cattle trough has
no inscription so it is not clear if both are in his memory or just the
trough.
The pair are both Grade II listed and the entry at the
English Heritage website [visit
link] tells us:
"Conduit head and cattle trough. Cattle trough dated
1877. Conduit head is about 9 feet high built of stone, square in plan with
hipped roof and squat octagonal shaft surmounted by cast iron bracket. Four
semi-circular stone bowls with cambered arches above. The whole is situated on
two square stone steps. The asdjoining granite cattle trough is rectangular with
two curbing stones facing south and dog trough beneath. It was erected by the
Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association and an inscription
on the west end reads 'IN MEMORIAM ROBERT TROTTER ESQ
1877.'"
