The granite drinking fountain was unveiled in April 1879 to the memory of Robert Trotter. In the recess, above the fountain, is inscribed:

"In
Memory of
Robert Trotter Esq
who died December 27th 1877
1 Thess 1-3"

On the semi-circular front face the following biblical quotation is inscribed:

"Whosoever drinketh from this water shall thirst again
But whosoever drinketh of the water that
I shall give him shall never thirst"
