This marker is dedicated to
4th Independent Battery Indiana Light Artillery in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The 4th Indiana Battery was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana and mustered in to Federal service on September 30, 1861. This is one of three markers to the 4th Indiana Battery on the battlefield. It marks their location at from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sept. 19, 1863.

Short Physical Description
This standard Indiana marker consists of a 4' x 4' x 4'8" high rock-faced oolitic stone block with a peaked top and a 12" x 18" bronze plaque affixed to its front. Marks battery's position on west side of Winfrey Field.

Directions: I parked at the Winfrey Field on Brotherton Rd. There are several monuments along the north side of Winfrey Field. Take the path along the western edge of the field to the 33rd Ohio Infantry Regiment Marker. There is a second trail along the northern edge of the field, follow this path to the 93rd Ohio Infantry Regiment Monument. Just west of this monument, there is a trail leading in to the wooded area north of the Winfrey Field.
Note
Trailhead Graphics, Inc. has produced a map of the Chickamauga Battlefield showing the locations of all of the monuments and the markers on the battlefield. Each location on the map has a number associated with it that cross-references to an index on the back of the map that has the name of the marker (called the Chick-Chatt NMP monument numbering system). This number corresponds to the structure Number listed on the NPS List of Classified Structures that is normally prefixed with the letters MT for the Chickamauga Battlefield.
