There is a significant community of glass artists on the island of Maui, and this is their tribute to the
2008 International Year of the Reef. The
Maui Glass Artists Association gives a good account of this type of glass mosaic work.
This mural is fashioned on the outside of a restroom building in the large Kamala Park in the center of Kihei, south Maui. The glass mosaic represents various scenes of the reefs which attract so many snorkelers and scuba divers to this island. One side has the slogan, "Cherish the Reef" in mosaic, and one end has painted, "International Year of the Reef 2008."
