Glen Iris Park was the first professionally landscaped community in Birmingham and the first where residents adhered to strictly self-imposed rules and covenants. The marker is located at the intersection of Glen Iris Park Road and 16th Avenue South. Glen Iris Park is posted as private property but the marker can be viewed from 16th Avenue. The marker was placed by the Alabama Historical Commission. Glen Iris Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Addtional Information:: Founded in 1898 by Robert Jemison, this 30-acre historic district is a private residential park containing an almost intact collection of some of Birmingham’s finest 20th century houses.
