This marker is located at the site of Camp Sheridan, a World War I era facility north of Montgomery. The marker gives information about how the 9th Infantry Division was organized on July 18, 1918 but its deployment to France was canceled when the war ended. The unit was reactivated for World War II and saw service in the European Theater. The marker concludes with the post-WWII information on the division. The marker is located on the median in Johnson Avenue, near the intersection with Lower Wetumpka Road, just north of the Northern Bypass in Montgomery. One can see the insignia of the 9th Division at the bottom of the marker, just below the text.

The text of the marker reads: 9th Infantry Division The 9th Division was organized on July 18, 1918 at Camp Sheridan for service in World War I. When the war ended, November 11, 1918, deployment of the Division to France was canceled and it was demobilized on February 15, 1919. Reactivated on August 1, 1940, 9th Infantry Division soldiers fought valiantly in 8 crucial World War II campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, France, Belgium, and Germany. After a short inactivation, the 9th returned to the active force on July 15, 1947 as a training division at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and later served under NATO in Germany and at Fort Carson, Colorado, as a combat unit.
