This dam was originally built to furnish water for the
Willowdale Mill, about 1/3 mile downstream. The dam and the sluiceway to the mill remain, but the mill is now just a cellar hole. There is an operational fish ladder around the dam.
Now a local attraction, the dam creates a
scenic waterfall, helps regulate the river flow, and contributes to 20 miles of flatwater canoeing upstream. On the left bank (north side), there is a
canoe rental business.
