Prospect Street in downtown La Jolla, California has the look and prices of Rodeo Drive but more than likely features patrons dressed in beach attire. Several nice hotels, such at the La Valencia Hotel, the La Jolla Inn and the Grand Colonial cater to the overnight visitor. For the hungry tourist, stop at Georges at the Cove for great views and contemporary food or try Al Fonso's of La Jolla for Mexican food. Both are on Prospect Street, the main street of La Jolla. South of downtown is the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, a branch of the San Diego Museum.

The coastline of La Jolla features sandy coves and dramatic cliffs. The coastal gems are Scripps Park, an open grassy area on a cliff above La jolla Cove and the Underwater Park. Here you might find picnicers, tie-die shirt vendors and Frisbee players. A short distance up the coast is La Jolla Shores, a wide sandy beach for swimmers and surfers. Further up the coast is the famed Scripps Institute of Oceanography. For Golfers there's the nearby Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Lodge at Torrey Pines. Torrey Pines State Beach and Torrey Pines State Reserve are right nearby.
