Almaden Lake Park is the center for the annual San Jose International Triathlon and is now home for the Almaden Art & Wine Festival.
The park is 65 acres in size with the main feature of the park being Almaden Lake, covering 32 acres. The lake is the result of an old quarry being filled. During summer months pedal boats can be rented to go out on the lake.
The lake divides the park into two parts, the Eastside, which runs alongside Winfield Boulevard and the Westside, which runs alongside Almaden Expressway. There are restroom facilities on each side. Each side has large grassy play meadows and picnic areas. A bridge crossing Los Alamitos Creek connects the two sides.
Dogs are not allowed on the Westside of the park as it is considered a wildlife sanctuary and the swim beach area must remain clean. There is a large playground area on the Westside, as well as a small concession stand. The Westside has sand volleyball courts, in addition to picnic tables and group areas.
The Eastside has a tot lot with a water play area. It also has horseshoe courts, Bocce ball courts, a basketball court and a pavilion. A bicycle path through the Eastside connects Los Alamitos Creek Trail at the south end of the park to Guadalupe River Park trail at the north end of the park.
Almaden Lake Park is open all year. See map. Hours are 8AM until one-half hour after sunset. Parking fees of $6 per vehicle are collected April through September. The VTA Light Rail vehicle, stops at the Almaden station, about one quarter mile from the park.
