With King Henry VIII's Dissolution of Monestaries in 1539, the historic Glastonbury Abbey fell into ruin and was scavanged for building materials. Over a century later, the local Quakers took advantage of the ruined abbey by using the still standing "Abbot's Kitchen" as their meeting house before being forced out. Only a brief mention in an interpretive sign marks their tenure at Glastonbury Abbey.
