It was with the creation of Union National Bank that Jesse H. Jones forged long-term ties with the founder of Gulf Oil and fellow investor in Union National, Pittsburgh financier Andrew Mellon. Eventually that partnership would result in the building of the tallest skyscraper in Houston, the
Gulf Building.
Hotel Icon has restored much of the grandeur of Union National Bank. The bank is graced with Beaux-Arts detail, including Corinthian columns of Bedford limestone. Since the building is a hotel, you can always walk around the lobby for a quick look.
