The Charlotte Harbor and Northern Railroad extended its line to this area in 1907, constructing a railway bridge over the Myakka River at Southland (now El Jobean) and erecting a small railway terminal near the river crossing.
Later in the 1920's during the Florida Land Boom a developer by the name of Joel Bean developed a community that would now be named El Jobean, and in 1923 built a larger building to house the depot. This building also housed the Post Office, a small general store, depot waiting room and receiving area, fire department and occasionally a one room jail.
The El Jobean community flourished for a brief time until the hurricanes of 1926 and 1928 along with the Great Depression of 1929 finally put an end to further development and no further need for a depot.
