A pair of mosaics outside Dadlington village Hall to commemorate the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, and the passing of the funeral cortege of King Richard III in 2015, on the way to his re-interment in Leicester.
The mosaics were been created by the children and young people of Dadlington to mark this occasion.

The last king of the Plantagenet dynasty,
Richard III, was killed in the Battle of
Bosworth Field on 22nd August 1485. His
body was taken to the church of the
Franciscan Friary (Grey Friars) in
Leicester, where he was buried.
The whereabouts of his grave was
unknown for centuries.
Following the rediscovery of the remains of
King Richard in 2012, his cortege visits
Dadlington on the way to his re-interment in
Leicester Cathedral.
His personal motto “loyaltie me lie “ (loyalty
binds me) is inscribed on his tomb, a final
resting place of spiritual reflection, quiet
grandeur and safety.

The people of Dadlington are proud and
honoured to be part of this historic, royal
occasion.
The mosaics on these two oak boards have
been created by the children and young
people of Dadlington to mark this day and to
recognise the role our village played in both
1485 and 2015.
22nd August 1485
St James’ Church, Dadlington is the only recorded burial site
for the fallen from the nearby Battle of Bosworth.
Permission to establish a chantry at St James' was granted by
Henry VIII in 1511 for masses to be said for the
“soules of all
suche persones as were slayn in the said feld.”
