Marieke Alberts werd op 31 juli 1763 op vreselijke wijze vermoord op weg naar huis en gedumpt aan de boorden van de Ziepbeek in Kotem.
Ze kwam van de kermis in Boorsem, werd in het veld opgewacht door haar moordenaar die haar ook verkrachtte en beroofde van haar zilveren juwelen.
De moordenaar werd ter dood veroordeeld. Hij werd ter plekke geradbraakt en onthoofd.

She came from the fair in Boorsem, was awaited in the field by her murderer who also raped and robbed her silver jewels.
The murderer was sentenced to death. He was burgled and decapitated on the spot.
