We discovered this benchmark while looking for a possible WPA shield on this bridge. We couldn't document the WPA, but we did discover this benchmark set into the top of one of the bridge pillars. The brdge spans Mud Creek on S. Main Street, about three blocks south of W. Chicago (Highway 51).

This is a U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark showing the designation X49. It is a Disk shown as being on a "Massive Structure". It is listed as GH0144 and is described as follows:

01/01/1934 by CGS (MONUMENTED) DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 AT YALE. AT YALE IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF CONCRETE PARAPET OF MAIN STREET BRIDGE OF SMALL STREAM. 50 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF MAIN STREET. 3 FEET ABOVE THE SIDEWALK.
