Located along the Mexican border in southern Arizona, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument protects a section of sonoran desert wildlife. The monument covers 516 square miles and 330,689 acres. Saguaro and many varieties of smaller cacti abound but the reason for the park is the Organ Pipe Cactus. Common in Mexico and farther south, this is their only location in the United States. The area has been mined and ranched for many years with the last cows only recently removed. The area is recovering its natural state as it is totally protected.
