[DE] "Die kath. Pfarrkirche St. Nikolaus ist ein denkmalgeschütztes Kirchengebäude in Daun.
Vom Ende des 11. bis Anfang des 12. Jahrhunderts wurde die Kirche als dreischiffige, flachgedeckte Pfeilerbasilika errichtet. In der Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts wurde die halbrunde Apsis durch einen fünfseitigen gotischen Chorschluss über einer Krypta ersetzt. Chorquadrat und Nebenchöre wurden gewölbt, das Westportal erweitert. In der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts wurde das Mittelschiff gewölbt und 1486 die Sakristei vollendet. Das Chorquadrat wurde mit den Nebenchören verbunden und die Seitenschiffe bis zur Turmfront vorgezogen.
1679 im pfälzischen Krieg wurden Ort und Kirche niedergebrannt. Die Ruine nutzte man als Stall. In der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde das Gebäude wieder aufgebaut. Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der Turm um drei Meter gekürzt und mit einer niedrigen Haube ausgestattet. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das Gebäude bis auf Teile des Turms und die Krypta zerstört. Von 1946 bis 1949 wurde die Kirche in Anlehnung an den romanischen Vorgängerbau wieder aufgebaut. Die Krypta wurde in den Neubau eingefügt. Bauleiter war der Kölner Dombaumeister Willy Weyres.
Im Innenraum ergänzen sich romanische und moderne Stilelemente. Die Kanzel stammt von Johannes Scherl aus Wittlich."

[EN] "The Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas is a listed church building in Daun.
From the end of the 11th to the beginning of the 12th century, the church was built as a three-nave, flat-roofed pillar basilica. In the middle of the 13th century the semicircular apse was replaced by a five-page Gothic chancel over a crypt. The choir square and side choirs were vaulted, the west portal extended. In the second half of the 15th century the nave was vaulted and the sacristy was completed in 1486. The choir square was connected to the side choirs and the aisles were brought forward to the tower front.
1679 during the Palatinate war, the town and the church were burnt down. The ruin was used as a stable. The building was rebuilt in the first half of the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the tower was shortened by three metres and equipped with a low bonnet. During the Second World War the building was destroyed except for parts of the tower and the crypt. From 1946 to 1949, the church was rebuilt in the style of its Romanesque predecessor. The crypt was inserted into the new building. The site manager was the Cologne cathedral master builder Willy Weyres.
Inside, Romanesque and modern style elements complement each other. The pulpit was built by Johannes Scherl from Wittlich."
