In 1898 Edgar Everett Goodno came to southwest Florida. He purchased large tracts of land and started the community that bears his name. A railroad station, hotel for tourists, cattle shipping operations, real estate development and other pursuits resulted in a small community.

In 1924 E.E. Goodno overextended his businesses and dealings and was forced to sell off his properties to the automobile manufacturer Henry Ford. Goodno remained to manage the Fort Thompson property for a few years.

In 1926 a hurricane flooded and destroyed the community. Today all that is left is a couple of abandoned building and the railroad grade.
Reason for Abandonment: Natural Disaster

Date Abandoned: 09/20/1926
