"The entrance of the Queen’s Pier in Ramsey will be lit up by a donated Christmas tree tomorrow (Saturday).

The special event has been organised by The Manx Wellbeing Centre, which is donating a Christmas tree to the Queen’s Pier Restoration Trust.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the switch-on at 4pm, where mince pies and stollen will be going around.

Samantha Galvin from the centre said: ’The Northern men’s choir is attending to sing carols with 26 gentlemen happy to be part of the event.

’My partner’s lovely 99-year-old nanna will be switching on the lights. Everyone will be welcome to attend.’" (visit link)

Queen's Pier on Queens Promenade in Ramsey was opened on 22 July 1886 and was 679 metres in length and was designed purely as a landing point for steamers plying from Fleetwood, Belfast and River Clyde.

All the other harbours on the Isle of Man (Douglas, Peel, Laxey, Castletown, Port Erin & Port St. Mary) have stone piers and consequently Ramsey's Queen's Pier is the longest iron pier on the Isle of Man.

Due to the deterioration of the Pier's timber decking and structure it was closed to public access in 1991.

In 2011 the Isle of Man's Department of Infrastructure undertook work to improve the structural integrity of the Whole Pier as well as making the area under and near the Pier.

Pier is Registered Building No. 154 on the Isle of Man Registered Buildings Register.
