Nach vorhandenen Unterlagen wurde die im Jahr 1373 erwähnte "Lantfeste" bereits im Jahre 1348 erbaut und 1653 erneuert. Nach dem Ausbau diente sie in späteren Zeiten als Zollstation für die Lahnschiffe und wurde bis zum heutigen Tag "Rondell" genannt.
Der Zollturm liegt zum größten Teil tief im Ufergelände , das bei Lahnkanalisation aufgeschüttet wurde. Zur Zeit des Baues lag der Turm am Wasser und ist auch heute noch das niedriggelegenste Gebäude der Stadt Lahnstein.
Der Turm ist unten Rund und darauf ist ein achteckiger Aufbau aus Fachwerk mit einem Glockendach."
