Located on a two-story brick wall on the southwest corner of E. Broadway and S. Ohio in downtown Drumright, this mural shows an amphitheater with a music show going on, and hundreds of local citizens enjoying the show. The shows took place in Way Park. Today, the amphitheater is still standing, but the wooden seats have been removed. The sloping hill in front of the amphitheater is a testament to this time in the history of Drumright.

A bronze plaque on the mural wall tells the full story of the importance of this time and community service.

This mural is a reproduction of the summer
Thursday night Way park Programs which was a
brainchild of early Drumrighters Lou Allard,
Arnold Scheer, and Dr. Dale Warner who saw a
desperate need for free entertainment in the
community in the dark days of the Great
Depression. The mural is dedicated to the memory
of these caring individuals who brought the
precious gift of music and laughter to a somber
community. Also we recognize the contributions of
Fernette Ashwell and Alene Hart who left the
glamorous life of the Ziegfield Follies to make their
fortune in the boomtown of Drumright, Oklahoma.
They performed as a comedy and dance team, and
established a dance studio which provided free
entertainment on the Way Park stage for more than
twenty years.

We recognize the support of those who helped
make a dream of an historical mural a reality: the
Drumright Lions Club, the Abby Tarr-Glenn Shaw
Foundation, Doyle Watson, Fred Jones, Betty
Kozlowski, Martha Daniel, the DHS Class of 1953,
Prime Equipment of Tulsa, Mr. and Mrs. Elvona
Springer of Stillwater, Jimmie Cook, June Skaggs,
Steve Scribner, Don Budowsky of Washington, D. C.,
Sallie Anderson Frazier and Nick Anderson.

Also we appreciate the time and talent of Gwen
Ingram, the muralist who brought the work to
fruition, and her helper, David Christian. And,
finally, we are indebted to the mural committee
Dana Smith, Billie Linduff, Linda Taylor, Betty
Kozlowski, Martha Daniel;, and Jimmie Cook, for
their determination and their dedication to
preserve a time and a place in the unique history
of Drumright, Oklahoma.

The members of the Mural Committee are deeply
grateful to those persons who participated in the
fund-raising activities and to the volunteer
workers who have made these murals possible
