Shady Maple began life as a roadside stand in 1962, growing to a brick and mortar produce store by 1970 and adding the Shady Maple Cafeteria in 1982, Shady Maple has grown into one of the most popular eating places in the area. Today, this restaurant is a smorgasbord fit for a birthday celebrant! The menu changes daily but always features good, Pennsylvania Dutch favorites, such as the best roast beef I have ever had, stuffing and mashed potatoes, a large salad bar, tons of pies and cakes and a soft serve ice cream machine with all of the makings for the sundae of your choice.
When the meal is over and you feel as though you can't move, it is time to move to the very large gift shop in the basement. There you will find hand made Amish quilts, melodic wind chimes, and thousands of other unique gifts in a room as big as the restuarant upstairs. For your birthday, you receive a 20% off coupon for the purchase of your choice.
Our most recent visit was for my daughter's birthday which just happened to coincide with Veterans' day. So my daughter's meal was free and my Vietnam veteran husband received a half price meal. We love Shady Maple and as soon as someone mentions that we need to visit there again, our whole family is ready to jump in the car and head to East Earl.
Because this is a smorgasbord, there is no menu to mention the free birthday offer but their website features it in big bold letters! (
