Opening in 1989, the Berkshire Mall was the first mall in Berks County. Anchored by three stores which have been in serious financial trouble, the future of this mall is questionable but for now, it is open and after a walk through it, most of the stores are occupied. The three anchor stores are Sears, who just filed for bankruptcy, the Bon Ton, a local chain which also filed for bankruptcy recently but was purchased by another company and Boscov's, a family owned chain which also went through financial troubles in the past ten years but seems to have pulled itself out and is opening new stores in the Mid Atlantic and New England states.
Most of the stores in this mall are your typical chain stores, the Gap, Victoria's Secret, Foot Locker, Kay Jewelers, Spenser's Gifts, and Aeropostale, etc. Unique to this area is the Auntie Anne's Pretzels.
