"During his stay from the Grande Armée to the Camp de Boulogne, Bonaparte built in 1803 on the rocky base of L'Heurt in the open sea, a fort of which we still see the ruins.
Bonaparte raised the camp in 1805, and the fort was disarmed under the restoration. He will regain his military function during the Second World War where he will be occupied by the Germans.
Currently, the site is a place for walking and discovering the marine environment at low tide. "

"Napoleon Bonaparte nestles everywhere in the Boulonnais. Including in the foundations of the fort of L'Heurt. It is he who ordered in 1803 the construction of this fortification surmounted by guns. The objective was to protect the Camp de Boulogne against attacks by the British. It was erected on an island of rocks called Heustrière ("oyster island"), which became "Heurt" by contraction.
Reinforced by the Germans during the war, the fort continues today to watch over Le Portel, of which it remains the symbol, and on all the mussel lovers, who will scratch its rocks at each high tide. He suffered a lot of time and storms. No reconstruction project has succeeded. Too expensive. For sure, the sentinel of Portel will not be eternal. But it will remain forever in the hearts of Portelois."

"Pendant son séjour de la Grande Armée au Camp de Boulogne, Bonaparte fit construire en 1803 sur le socle rocheux de l’Heurt en pleine mer, un fort dont nous voyons encore les ruines.
Bonaparte leva le camp en 1805, et le fort fut désarmé sous la restauration. Il retrouvera sa fonction militaire pendant la seconde guerre mondiale où il sera occupé par les allemands.
Actuellement, le site est un lieu de promenade et de découverte du milieu marin à marée basse."

"Napoléon Bonaparte se niche partout dans le Boulonnais. Y compris dans les fondations du fort de l’Heurt. C’est lui qui a ordonné en 1803 la construction de cette fortification surmontée de canons. L’objectif était de protéger le Camp de Boulogne contre les attaques des Britanniques. Il a été érigé sur un îlot de rochers qui portait le nom d’Heustrière (« île aux huîtres »), devenu « Heurt » par contraction.
Conforté par les Allemands pendant la Guerre, le fort continue aujourd’hui à veiller sur Le Portel, dont il reste le symbole, et sur tous les amateurs de moules, qui vont gratter ses rochers à chaque grande marée. Il a beaucoup souffert du temps et des tempêtes. Aucun projet de reconstruction n’a abouti. Trop coûteux. Pour sûr, la sentinelle du Portel ne sera pas éternelle. Mais elle le restera à jamais dans le cœur des Portelois. "
