A proximité de la route et des auberges qui la bordaient, entre le village et les jardins, la fontaine vieille alimentait en eau de source les habitants et les voyageurs mais aussi les troupeaux pour lesquels Vinon était une halte traditionnelle lors de la transhumance.

La source, protégée par une voûte, jaillit au pied du village, juste à côté du lavoir.

On utilise au maximum son eau abondante.

Elle remplit d'abord les abreuvoirs et le vaste lavoir ainsi qu'un petit bassin, avant de servir à l'irrigation des jardins en contrebas.

Dans les archives communales le petit bassin est appelé "le lavoir aux herbes".

Il servait à laver tout ce qui pouvait salir l'eau du lavoir principal, réservé au linge : les légumes et les plantes mais aussi les outils, les tonneaux ou les entrailles d'animaux ...

La fontaine était ainsi, tout au long de la journée, l'un des principaux lieux d'animation de Vinon.

Near the road and the inns that bordered it, between the village and the gardens, the old fountain supplied spring water to the inhabitants and travellers but also to the herds for which Vinon was a traditional stopover during the transhumance.

The spring, protected by a vault, gushes out at the foot of the village, just next to the washhouse.

We use as much as possible of its abundant water.
It first fills the water troughs and the large washhouse as well as a small pond, before being used for irrigation in the gardens below.
In the municipal archives the small basin is called "the herb washhouse".
It was used to wash anything that could dirty the water in the main laundry room: vegetables and plants but also tools, barrels or animal entrails...
The fountain was thus, throughout the day, one of Vinon's main entertainment venues.
