A memorial plaque to the Elgar brothers, who fell in WWII, set into the inner wall of the south aisle of the church,

The inscription reads -
IN MEMORY OF WALTER ROBINSON ELGAR
BELOVED HUSBAND OF LILIAN ELGAR
WHO DIED 18.11.1939 AND THEIR
DEAR SONS- GODFREY WYATT ELGAR
WHO DIED 4.10.1935 AND ON ACTIVE SERVICE
IN THE SECOND GREAT WAR- PILOT OFFICER
CHRISTOPHER MAYLUM ELGAR R.A.F.
PRESUMED KILLED 15.8.1941: SUADRON LEADER
CHARLES ROBINSON ELGAR R.A.F. KILLED
22.5.1943
GRANT THEM O LORD REST AND PEACE
AND MAY LIGHT ETERNAL SHINE UPON THEM


"Casualty of WWII, Charles was a Squadron Leader and Pilot with the Royal Air Force (Auxiliary Air Force)Service No:90009. He was 32 and graduated Bachelor of Arts. He left a widow, Esme Elgar of Swanage, Dorsetshire.

His brother, also with the Royal Air Force (Auxiliary Air Force), Flying Officer Christopher Maylam Elgar, aged 32 was killed on active service too.[August 15th 1941]He has no known grave and is commemorated on the RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL, Panel 30 (visit link) .

The brothers are commemorated on this tablet in the church.

They were sons of Walter Robinson Elgar and Lilian Elgar of Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent."
