This 22 foot long replica of the USS New Jersey is made of brass and was actually used to test radio waves for the US Navy prior to the original ship's recommission in 1981. Use of the model allowed the Navy to monitor antenna response patterns for a given frequency between ships of the battleship class.

This model had been housed in the original ship which has been converted to a museum and memorial. It was decided to place the model on display as a way to spread the word that the original ship was open to visitors.

The article about this model's role in history can be found at http://www.gloucestercitynews.net/clearysnotebook/2017/05/22-foot-model-of-uss-new-jersey-docks-at-farley-plaza-on-atlantic-city-expressway.html .
