Who Put it Here?: Ben Franklin Garden of Memories
Description of Memorial: This is a gray, granite monument on a horizontal base, coming to a rounded point at the top. "Veteran's" is across the top of the memorial, with the flag of the United States below it, while "Memorial" runs vertically between the two tablets that bear the names of those who are honored. The alphabetical order of the names is a snapshot of the time when the memorial was created, and the names are now out of order on the reverse as our servicemen pass on.
As to the town name, one of our Founding Fathers is not exactly immortalized here. Rather, an early settler, Benjamin Franklin Simmons, came here with his family in the 1830s, and this settlement was named for his son, who was also Benjamin Franklin Simmons. Both are probably bearing the name of our prestigious founding father. Be sure to visit the church the 1898 Methodist church across the road from here.
