On June 3, 1901, the Detroit Public Library was granted $750,000 by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. A portion of that grant was used to open the Detroit Public Library's Conely Branch. On September 15, 1913, the Conely Branch opened to the public in then rural southwest Detroit. Today, the library is still in use.
