Approximately 300 people work at the Control and Reporting Center (CRC). From a bunker they check and secure the airspace within the framework of the support to the nation and report directly to NATO, even in peacetime.

Within the CRC, airspace monitoring operators continuously build up an aerial image by identifying all flight movements within the area of ??responsibility. This aerial image is passed on to the higher command echelons and the neighboring radar centers.

If necessary, fighter aircraft are used to carry out a visual inspection by means of an emergency interception. In order to carry out this Quick Reaction Alert (or QRA) task, the air traffic controllers are kept on hand around the clock to accompany these armed F-16 fighters.
