EN The earthquake of June 11, 1909, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked the south-east of France and seriously damaged the cities of Salon-de-Provence, Vernègues, Lambesc, Saint-Cannat and Rognes in the chain of Trévaresse (Bouches-du-Rhône).
While Salon, Saint-Cannat, Rognes and Lambesc were not destroyed by the earthquake, Vernègues is the only village to have been completely destroyed. The village was rebuilt 90 m lower.
This church, the most recent church in the Massif des Costes, was built in 1911. This monument of modest architecture houses a superb fresco entitled "Hymn to Creation" by Peter Erkel in 2000.
The square bell tower, massive, seems to welcome only one bell.
