"...At the northern edge of the central business district, near the elevated platform of the Southern Railroad were several industries which included two warehouses, the Douglas County Cooperative Warehouse, the Upshaw Bros & Co. Warehouse, The Baggett Bros. Planning Mill (Lumber) and The Douglasville Canning and Preserving Company established in 1887.

"The New South newspaper of 1901, April 4, 1901 - Vol. XXIV., No. 4., which replaced The Weekly Star, carried much advertisement about many of the stores as having very lucrative businesses as follows:
  "Upshaw Bros. & Co., groceries and fertilizer, are constantly offering their customers some goods, and these offers
  don't go unaccepted. They sell for cash. Read this ad."

Upshaw operated this business from 1891 to 1930 with receipts of over $100,000 in 1909, second only to the Duncan Brothers. Lucius C.
