[DE] "Das Weinfelder Maar, auch Totenmaar genannt, ist ein Maar rund zwei Kilometer südöstlich der Stadt Daun in der Eifel, Rheinland-Pfalz.
Der Maarsee entstand vor rund 10.500 Jahren bei einer vulkanischen Dampfexplosion und ist rund 525 m lang, 375 m breit und 51 m tief. Die Wasserfläche beträgt etwa 16,8 ha. Das Maar liegt auf einer Höhe von 483,5 m ü. NHN. Der aus Tuff bestehende, den See umgebende Wall, ist an der westlichen und südlichen Seite höher als im Norden und Osten. Im Zuge dieses Walles befinden sich der Mäuseberg (561,2 m) und das Maarkreuz (534,5 m). Das Gebiet des Sees ist heute Naturschutzgebiet. Das Baden im Maar ist verboten.
Die Bezeichnung „Totenmaar“ stammt vom in unmittelbarer Nähe des Maars gelegenen Friedhof mit einer kleinen, teilweise aus dem 14. Jahrhundert stammenden Kapelle. Dabei handelt es sich um die ehemalige Pfarrkirche von Weinfeld. Das Dorf wurde im 16. Jahrhundert (1512 letzte urkundliche Erwähnung) infolge der Pest aufgegeben.
Die Kapelle und der angeschlossene Friedhof werden heute von der Gemeinde Schalkenmehren für Begräbnisse genutzt. Im Eingangsbereich der Kapelle befinden sich zahlreiche Dank-Tafeln, mit Widmungen wie: „Maria hat geholfen.“"

Lake Maar was formed some 10,500 years ago during a volcanic steam explosion and is around 525 m long, 375 m wide and 51 m deep. The water area is about 16.8 ha. The Maar lies at an altitude of 483.5 m above sea level. The tuff wall surrounding the lake is higher to the west and south than to the north and east. In the course of this wall are the Mäuseberg (561.2 m) and the Maarkreuz (534.5 m). The area of the lake is now a nature reserve. Bathing in the river Maar is forbidden.
The name "Totenmaar" comes from the cemetery in the immediate vicinity of the river Maars with a small chapel, partly dating from the 14th century. This is the former parish church of Weinfeld. The village was abandoned in the 16th century (last documented mention in 1512) as a result of the plague.
The chapel and the adjoining cemetery are now used for burials by the community of Schalkenmehren. In the entrance area of the chapel there are numerous signs of gratitude, with dedications such as: "Mary helped."
